The venue was Carvosso's 210 Chiswick High Road, W4 1PD. The meeting was a joint one with the Independent Consultants Group of West London CIPD. Nearly all of us procrastinate at one time or another. At best, it's a frustrating habit. At worst, putting things off can cause stress, anxiety and depression. It could even ruin your business. Andrea is a consultant and therapist who recognises that if people could “just do it”, with or without fear, they would. She has written two books on this subject, “Isn't it About Time? How to stop putting things off and get on with your life” and “The Little Book of Procrastination”. She talked to us about her work, showing us how we all block our natural tendency to be effective and creative and how we can build on our strengths to give that tendency to procrastinate something better to do. It was a brilliant evening, even though Andrea had to compete with the noise of the Beaujolais Nouveau "arriving" downstairs. She kept us enthralled for almost an hour and a half, and made us do a lot of the work ourselves. She suggested that if you want to find out what procrastination is to visit Youtube and put in "Procrastination John Kelly". The CIPD group were so impressed they plan to arrange a day long workshop in the new year to explore ways to overcome the problem. As I get their newsletters I'll pass on the information to our group, since the nine of us who attended obviously enjoyed it.
