Annual General Meeting of the Club was held. Chair Susan Gould stood down and elections took place. The new committee comprises David Mills, Gill Craigie, Andrew Cazalet, Ray Patmore, Amber Hatcher and Carol Marblestein, who will meet next week to plan the year ahead. Thanks were given to George Hazlewood and Jacqie Frye, who also stood down, for their contributions. There were fourteen members present, which was an excellent turn-out. After the AGM Constance Lamb, an actress and expert on public speaking, talked to us about using our voices to better effect. She had us all on our feet doing breathing exercises and saying “Oh Hello” in somewhat camp tones to see the effect of speaking on the out-breath rather than on the held breath. She explained how we could make our professional pitches more memorable. The key is to decide beforehand five things you want remembered, and to design your presentation for the spoken word, not the written word. After some questions we had coffee and networked.
