Thursday 14th April – An introduction to the Alexander Technique
Carmen Barral – Teacher of the Alexander Technique
I was born and brought up in Spain and have a degree in psychology and a diploma in teaching from Santiago de Compostela University, but have lived in Ealing for the last 27 years. I completed a three-year full-time course at the Constructive Teaching Center in London, under Walter Carrington. His school is the world's oldest established training course for Alexander Technique teachers.
On Thurs 14th we are going to explore the principles of the Alexander Techniques and how it can help you in your daily live.
What is the Alexander Technique? The Alexander Technique (AT) is a self-help method of dealing with inappropriate amount of tension which leads to imbalance, pain and malfunction. It is a way of re-educating your body to work the way it has been designed to work. The AT can help, amongst other things, with:
• Back, Neck and Shoulder problems
• Stress and Tension
• Headache and Migraines
• Breathing and Voice problems
• Repetitive Strain Injury
• Posture and Poise
• Balance and Coordination
• Confidence and Public Speaking
Essentially the Technique improves the way we use ourselves - mind and body - in everyday life, how we move, breath, talk, rest and react. Learning it can become a voyage of discovery that will help you for the rest of your life.
Please bring three or four paperbacks, for head support, and a mat if you'd rather avoid lying directly on the floor. We may or may not use them. Avoid tight skirts.
Looking forward to see you all there.
